From Brazil - Easy Two Notes Bossa Nova

 One of my youngest pupils is just 5 years old, so I had to re-think some of the teaching techniques to fit better. This melody is an easy bossa nova, consisting just of 2 notes, C (with no pistons pressed) and B (with the middle piston), easy to play for kids with smaller hands.

Warmups Up to C2

Playing over G sometimes is tricky for beginners. 

In order to make things easier, we "trick" the pupils to shift to the next (3rd) overtone/harmonic by playing G with the pistons 1 and 3 (see "Baby Shark"). We start with a familiar note (G) and from there we just relax the lipps... and then, we relax even more. 

Playing higher notes is just a matter of not lowering the notes by pressing pistons.

Mary Had a Little Lamb - Easy Level

 After learning to play E, playing 1,2,3, Funk in E and Trumpetmare, we can try this popular folk tune.

The melody is pretty simple, again, it has the same 3 notes; E, D and C.

Deșteaptă-te, române! (Romanian national anthem, brass quintet arrangement)

 "Deșteaptă-te, române!", the Romanian national anthem, was written and published during the 1848 revolution.

The melody was originally by Anton Pann. In 1848 Andrei Mureșanu wrote the lyrics. The song was officially adopted as the national anthem on 24 January 1990, shortly after the Romanian Revolution of December 1989.

This particular arrangement I made for the Romanian National Day in 2021, because one of my friends, Emil Bizga,  noticed there are no decent music sheet versions online.

So, after doing this, I said, why wouldn't we play it also? So we made this video:

1, 2, 3, Funk in E!

Oh well... it's actually in D, but because trumpet is a B♭ instrument, for us in in E.
Now, having that out of the way, we can focus on the melody itself. The term "melody" is a bit of a stretch here... all we have to play is one note; E.
To play that we have to press first and second pistons. Remember, the first piston is on the same side with the mouthpiece.

The track uses also a chord progression I "borrowed" from Jacob Collier. In a world where pop music is getting increasingly simpler and more primitive, I believe it's important to expose young generation to more complex and intricate harmony.

Mexican Hat Dance - Medium Easy Level

I think it's fun to learn this famous song. I made a simplified version for trumpet.

"Jarabe tapatío", often referred to as the Mexican hat dance, is the national dance of Mexicans. It originated as a courtship dance in Guadalajara, Jalisco, during the 19th century, although its elements can be traced back to the Spanish zambra and jabber gitano, which were popular during the times of the viceroyalty."   Wikipedia

La Cucaracha - Medium Level Traditional Melody

Here's a trumpet version of  "La Cucaracha", written in G major for B♭ instruments (F major for C instruments), and 4/4. I found in a book a 3/4 version and that didn't sound right, so I made this version.

"La Cucaracha" is a traditional Spanish folk song about a cockroach (la cucaracha literally translates to “the cockroach” in English) that loses one of its legs, making it difficult for the roach to get around. It is unknown when the song came about. It is also very popular in Latin America. In Mexico, it was performed widely during the Mexican Revolution.
